Day by the River

After we made our way out of the Museum, (within minutes of it's closing...) we headed out to the London Eye. I believe it's the largest ferris wheel in the world. The view is absolutely breathtaking and we caught it all just before a storm rolled in. First we stopped along the way to watch a few street performers. Some of them are really good and actually look like real statues. You can walk along the street and wonder why London would have such a statue and then you realize they aren't real.

There's also an art installment in the city where (I believe) 21 sculptors have put up casts of themselves on top of buildings, bridges, etc. At first you don't notice them but then you start to see them everywhere.

This is an amazing view of the city from the eye.

This is me inside the eye. From a distance, it all looks a lot like a normal ferris wheel but not until you get inside do you realize how big it is. You can fit about 25 people comfortably into each pod.

Here's one last look at the other pods from inside our pod. The white strip around the middle of the pod is how the pod rotates. Instead of each one hanging on a bar that rotates around a hinge, each pod is held in place by two white rings and the pod itself is what turns. I guess you could get it spinning if you were to all run up the sides of the thing. ...if it weren't for the security cameras.

Here's what the eye looks like from the ground. It's BIG...
We took this picture of our picture because we already had lots and didn't want to buy this one just to get a keychain.

This is an experimental shot that Jonathan took of the bench. It's got lots of artistic potential.

We spent a good half hour taking pictures of ourselves and of pictures of pictures of ourselves. We almost forgot about the storm that had been rolling in while we were on the eye. We got up and got running just in time to get really wet! This is us in the tube station after our good soaking. We surfed the whole way there on our flip flops.
